Here at the gallery we emphasise the power of mindfulness when connecting with the art in our exhibitions. Many of our shows have events and workshops that enable participants to explore the art work mindfully - these are facilitated by gallery owner and accredited Mindfulness Teacher - Rachael Pinks.
Rachael also teaches an 8 week programme - Mindfulness for Stress - At the end of this 8-week course you will have a foundation in the skills of mindfulness, compassion, and meditation, and know how to apply them in your life in a way that really makes a difference. Rachael undertook extensive training with Breathworks - a leading UK charity and a founding member of the British Association for Mindfulness-Based Approaches (BAMBA).
Happiness is a skill. This is what the ancient practice of mindfulness teaches, and what modern psychology research has shown. The wonderful thing is that this skill, just like driving or dancing, can be learned, and it can stay with you for a lifetime.
WHAT IS MINDFULNESS?
Vidyamala the founder of Breathworks defines mindfulness this way:
"Living in the moment, noticing what is happening and making choices in how you respond to your experience rather than being driven by habitual reactions."
Mindfulness is simply awareness. It’s the awareness that gives you the power to know what your mind is doing, and being really present for that experience.
Why is that useful?
We spend a lot of time using our minds in ways that make us unhappy; going around in circles thinking about worries, bad memories, self-critical thoughts, and so on. Our minds can get stuck on thoughts or beliefs that aren’t true, and totally blow things out of proportion.
We can spend a long time - our whole lives! - using our minds in this way, because we don’t have the awareness to notice what we’re doing, and that we have an alternative.
With mindfulness, we have the power to notice thoughts, perceptions, judgements, and reactions.
WHO IS THE COURSE FOR?
