Join Karina, from Whittle & Weave, to create an asymmetrical willow basket with a whittled hazel handle - perfect for foraging or the garden harvest. 11th March 2025 10am - 5.30pm.

Working with various varieties of sustainably harvested willow participants can choose from a range of beautiful earthy tones to design their own unique basket.

Over this course participants will learn a range of basketry techniques, including a pairing weave, a 3-rod wale and French randing.

This course is suitable for complete beginners and those wishing to learn new weaving techniques.

I’m Karina and I quite like bending sticks. I love the slow pace and methodical processes involved in basket making and I really enjoy sharing this skill with others.

I have always worked in the outdoors. After studying environmental science and working in conservation for a while I moved into environmental education. For the last 15 years I have been running bushcraft courses – mainly playing in the woods, making fires, using sharp tools and creating things out of natural materials. I have been weaving baskets for around 10 years and set up this little business because weaving makes me happy.

I have worked with all sorts of groups over the years and have seen how beneficial connecting with nature can be. Immersing yourself in a mindful craft like basketry, working with your hands to physically shape a natural material, is a great way to connect… and so rewarding – plus you can do it indoors with a nice cup of tea when the weather’s rubbish.

If you would like to have a go at bending some sticks or twisting some leaves to make your own basket I would love to see you at the workshop. Costs £115 pp and inc materials.
